Car Knitting

Well, I knit in the car today. I was the driver. No, I was not knitting while driving. I was knitting while stationary. I came upon an intersection that has a cemetary driveway. Motorcycle cops had blocked the street so a funeral procession could turn left into that driveway. After sitting bored for several minutes it suddenly occurred to me that I had a sock in my purse! So, I started to knit. And then the procession ended. Yeah, I think I got the stitches on one of the DPNs knit. These things always occur to me too late.

I am going to try to make a lace shawl out of actual lace weight yarn! I understand the pattern so it is going to be a matter of not dropping stitches or losing my place in the pattern. I'm excited but nervous about it! I think it is probably going to take me a very long time.

Here is a picture of my differently sized Broad Street Mittens!

New List

I can cross a couple of things off of my projects list! In addition to the pink and purple scarf, I just finished my second Broad Street Mitten. I am very happy with them. I think I must have lost track of my rows on the first one, though, because the mitten on it is longer than the mitten on the one I just finished. The second one fits better. Also, the second one has a much better looking seam where the mitten meets the fingerless glove.

I think if I were to make another pair I would knit the mitten, then sew it onto the glove rather than picking up the stitches. I think I would get more accuracy that way. I have no plans to knit another anytime soon, however.

I also decided to frog the red lace scarf. After that last long scarf I just don't feel like another right now. I had not gotten very far with it, so no big deal.

Here is my updated list of UFO's:

green armwarmer (pretty much abandoned; I just can't motivate myself)
purse (also abandoned, not in a purse mood right now)
Moss Grid Hand Towel (Yikes, can't remember what row I stopped on!)
need to CO second bamboo Fetching
Cascade Fixation sock

That list is looking much smaller and more manageable. But I have this very strong desire to CO something new!

Blog Not Abandoned

No, I did not abandon the blog. I moved! And then I had to wait to get cable ('cause they don't care that you are a teacher and cannot commit to a 1-5 window). Then I got cable...and it went out. It is back on today so now I am here.

I finished a project the other day. The vertically striped scarf. Man, is it long! About 8 feet, I think. Proof that I am not so good at calculating guage. It's ok, though, 'cause it is a scarf. An 8 foot scarf is acceptable.

And I registered for Stitches West! I am so excited! I did not get to go last year because I was in Hawaii. No such trip this February. I can only afford one class so I signed up for the thing I want to do most: spin. Now, the wait until February is going to be long. In the meantime I have time to set aside some spending money for the market.

Pictures of the long scarf soon.
