SOCKS!

I DID IT! I DID IT! I finished my first ever pair of socks! I was pleased with myself. It only took me 11 weeks to finish both socks. I was a bit disappointed with the reception the second sock received from its new owner, however. A casual, "Oh, thanks," was all. Well, ok, whatever. I guess I did make her wait a long time for the second sock. The first one seemed to go much faster.

Actually, I have been noticing that about myself when making things in pairs. The first one always seems to be more successful than the second. I think perhaps I get too confident and pay less attention to pattern. Must curb this. I have a second mitten to make for myself, after all. A mitten knit on size 2 needles!

My next project is going to be one of the linen towels from Mason-Dixon Knitting. And I need to get started on my cousin's mittens. The mittens should knit up quickly.

I Must be the World's Slowest Sock Knitter

The second sock in the only pair of socks I have ever attempted is coming along very slowly. I am almost to the point where I will decrease for the toe. Since I am not a big fan of actually wearing colorful socks and knitting socks is turning out to be such a bitch for me I think I will put socks forever in the "At least I tried it" category of knitted objects. My sister will get a decent pair of colorful stripy socks out of it and I the strange urge to knit socks will have been pacified.

I took out Aida's second armwarmer again. I have been avoiding it for months but I daren't visit her without a completed pair in my possession. She did pay for the yarn, after all. And I would like to visit SF for a decent stay sometime this summer. The problem is I designed the darned things myself and lost my notes from the first one! So, now I am fumbling my way through the second and hoping I can get them to look fairly close.

Next Up: My cousin's mittens. Oh, and reknitting the matching hat that somehow ended up with a hole in it. An I can stick my big toe through it hole.

Yes, I Did This

I have to give a big sigh here for my thoughtless clutziness. When one has lots of tiny implements that go along with the knitting process one really should take more care when moving plastic drawers on wheels. One should not be in such a hurry that one does not remove the lidless containers sitting on top of the drawers on wheels. ESPECIALLY when said drawers are to be put back into the closet! Here is what happened when I did the above:

Umm, ok, my Fotki account has expired so no pictures until I decide what I want to do. I think I would like to use Gallery but I just don't have the energy to go through the installation/learning process right now. Read on to find out what my clutzy carelessness caused...

Yes, I dropped a container filled with many small DPNs. I suppose I was lucky only one of them ended up in the closet door track. After panicing for about 30 seconds, followed by disgust for myself, I had a brainstorm: tweasers! Yes, marvelous inventions, tweasers are. Good for plucking out gray hairs and DPN-from-closet-door-track removal. After fumbling around for a bit I managed to get a decent grip on the DPN and out it came. I was quite proud of myself. My dear friend Sally would be quite proud of me, as well (Sally is very resourceful and practical).

So, that is the saga of the DPN. Perhaps next time I have to move stuff on wheels I will remember this...but perhaps not.

Project Updates:

Jen's socks: I had to rip back quite a bit on the second sock because I FORGOT TO TURN THE HEEL! But I have now turned the heel, completed the necessary decreases and am now just knitting around and around for the foot.

As for other projects, ummm, haven't touched 'em. I have been obsessing over this second sock. Why does it seem like the second try is harder than the first one for me? Perhaps too much confidence.

Pics

Ummm, ok, must remember to make pictures smaller.

Pictures!

This is my first attempt at the Ballband Dishcloth from Mason-Dixon Knitting.

May I say that I love that book? I don't normally purchase hardback books because of the cost but this one was a must have. There is just too much stuff in there I MUST knit! I went to Commuknity this weekend just to get yarn for the things in there I want to knit. This was the first project. I have enough yarn to make one more but next I think I will tackle one of the linen hand towels (ok, first socks, now hand towels...things I never imagined myself knitting. It is these darned knitting writer types, convincing me to knit such things, I blame them!).

Here is my latest purse, which I have been using quite a lot lately.

And my sister's second sock. Now working on the foot!
