Getting Better at Socks

While I wait for access to a top loading dryer (oh, please, sister, move somewhere with a top loader so I don't have to ask the Grandma) to felt the Cheshire Cat Purse, I have decided to start some socks for myself. I am using the Bamboo Regia. It still has some wool but maybe not so much that I will itch. If itching occurs I will gift the socks to my sister.

The socks are actually turning out quite nicely! Not crazy about the way the combination of colors is coming out but I have not been making mistakes on the pattern I chose: a 4 by 4 basket weave. I have finished the heel and am now making my way down the foot.

I got a lot of this sock done at Disneyland, while waiting in line for rides. My sister and I were strategic about what times to get in lines so we did not wait overly long for anything, despite the fact that Christmas Day was incredibly packed. I did quite a bit in line for Space Mountain, the Matterhorn and Screamin' (over at California Adventure). Got stared at a good bit but small price to pay for keeping myself occupied in line.

Recent yarn purchases: teal cotton will be a hat for my friend's baby (they don't seem to make baby yarns in teal) and a dusty pink merino will be Fetching for another friend.

Purchase coveted: oh, how I am trying to resist a graphite Knitter's Satchel. But if I resist I see that I have enough money for however many rounds the Sharks can manage in the playoffs this year (and it had better be all).

Cheshire Cat Update

I finished the Noni Baguette that looks like the Cheshire Cat. Well, finished the knitting part, that is. I don't have access to a top loading washer right now so it sits for awhile, unfelted and unfinished. I am very pleased with how it turned out so far. It was pretty easy to do. I suspect the hard parts will be lining and putting in a zipper. Never done a zipper before! SCARY! I am going to have my local LYS order a set of Crystal Palace handles that curl up at the ends. I figure I should just go with the wimsical Cheshire Cat look.

I can't wait to get to the Sharks game tonight. I think even a cold arena will be warmer than my apartment is right now! I hate to spend money on inefficient apartment heaters so it is blankets for me. Sadly, that means my fingers get stiff and cold, which makes knitting uncomfortable.

Noni Baguette

I have been wanting to make a Noni bag for some time now. I decided to reward myself for the miserable birthday with all the necessay supplies. I figure I would have spent at least the same amount if I had gone to San Francisco. I started the bag and this is what it looks like:

As I knit it over the last few days something about it was disturbing me. I could not figure out what it was. Was it the stripes that reminded me of the Cat in the Hat's hat? No. I finally realized it today. The colors! The Cheshire Cat! The Cheshire Cat!

Well, not sure how I feel about a Cheshire Cat bag. I hope it wins me over when felted!

Worst Birthday EVER!

I am having the worst birthday ever. My sister says I can just pretend it did not happen and then I don't have to be a year older.

My plan for the birthday was to visit my friend in San Francisco. Walking around, good food, and perhaps a trip to Art Fibers. I was REALLY wanting to go to Art Fibers. But instead, I sprained my ankle and foot while coming down the stairs at work yesterday. I think I missed a step. I guess I should be grateful it was the last step or I would have gone tumbling down many. But still, it HURTS! And I'm not going to be able to get up the steps on Monday, which means I will have to trust my class going up and down 3 floors on their own. I DON"T TRUST THEM! I am hoping it will get much better tomorrow because I don't want to miss work or have to deal with any work related injury type paperwork.

And you'd think being an invalid would give me lots of knitting time but I can't seem to find a comfortable position for both knitting and keeping my foot elevated.

The worst birthday EVER! When I am better I am going to Commuknity to console myself with yarn I don't really need. LOTS of yarn.
