My Cable Was Out

So, I was so happy to feel motivated to take some pictures of my current projects. Then I went to post them...and my cable was out! I couldn't do anything about it as I had to take my cat to the vet. I had to wait to call the cable company. Of course, they give me a hard time about what time they will come; they don't get that teachers can't be home between 10 and 2 on a weekday. My understanding was that I would get a call for an appointment today but the call was that they had come out (without calling first) and the problem was that the cable had been disconnected (wow, badly constructed sentence but I'm too lazy to fix it). It got reconnected and here I am, able to post my pictures.

I have the Bonsai Tunic from the Spring Interweave Knits...

an inch of Murphy Baby Sharks hat that I have since finished (just needs the patch sewn on)...

and finally, a finished twisted rib Tofutsies ankle sock.

As for my cat: I took him to Previous Vet (quite a drive away, which is why I found New Vet) for a second opinion about his conditions and the treatments. I was feeling very pessimistic, thinking I might even have to have him euthanized. His problems are declining kidney function and allergies that cause him to scratch his head free of hair (this also gets very bloody). New Vet has him on fluids that I have to inject under his skin every day (you can imagine how lovely it is to inject a squirming cat with 150 ml of fluid; I have ended up sticking myself with the needles more often than the actual cat). Previous Vet confirmed that this is the right course of action for his kidneys. However, he disagreed with New Vet on whether or not to give him a cortisone shot for the allergies. New Vet would not give him anything for his head and Previous Vet feels that his head condition is ruining his quality of life and so granted my wish of a shot. His head is already starting to dry up and scab over because he scratches much less. Now I just have to give him his fluids for another week or so before having his blood tested again to see if it is helping. I felt optimistic last night after he got back to his old habit of trying to bite my knitting!

Why didn't I think of that?

I have often, on cold nights, wished that my blanket had a hole for my arms so that I could keep it over my shoulders and still knit. I wished this last night, when I was ill and a bit chilled but still wanting to knit my Tofutsies sock. So, what do I see today as I peruse SF Gate (San Francisco Chronicle's online site), but something even better than a blanket with a hole: a blanket with arms, The Slanket! I want one while at the same time wondering why I didn't think of that. It is truly an awesome invention that I will be getting for myself next fall.
