Hockey Knitting

I don't have much interesting knitting to post. I am working on a Cascade 220 stash busting fulled bag. I have many different colors of the stuff left over from other projects so I decided to make a stripey bag out of it all. So far, the bottom is dark purple, then I have a hot pink stripe and now I am working on the lime green stripe. I really like this project because I do not have to look at it, making it perfect for hockey playoff knitting: Go Sharks!

We can thank Samantha Bee for this post. I've been having a lot of stress at work and I went home very unhappy today. I usually feel better after a bit, but this just wasn't going away. And by this, I mean, a lot of anger and depression. I even felt too bad too knit! So, the Daily Show comes on, and I laugh a bit...but Samantha Bee's segment about a war between humans and the Earth really helped pull me out of depression. It was frickin' funny and while I don't want to work tomorrow (I will), I'm not quite so beaten down as before. Oh, this is last night's episode re airing that I speak of.

Second Side Syndrome?

I recently read the wonderful new book, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee Casts Off. In it she discusses various knitting illnesses, including the common Second Sock Syndrome, which I catch on a frequent basis. She did not, however, mention anything about illnesses regarding halves of garments. Here is a picture of the almost completed back of the Bonsai Tunic (I have since finished the back but was too lazy to take another picture).

And now I find myself rather unmotivated to start the front! So, apparently I have contracted a new illness. Second Side Syndrome or maybe Second Half Syndrome, so as not to confuse it with the original SSS. Yes, this shall be SHS. It stinks. This must be why knitting garments in the round was invented.

In the meantime I plied some merino and tencel that I spun. I also spun silk hankies. The hankies are the ones on the spindle.
I so want a spinning wheel. I enjoy the spindle but it is such slow going that I get frustrated when I open up my spinning box and see all that unspun fiber and I think about how long it will take to finish it all. I want to actually knit something with the stuff!

My vacation is over. I have to go back to work tomorrow morning. The days of sleeping late and knitting all day are over. At least until mid-June (no summer school for me this year, no way)!

Beading

When I was a teen, I beaded. My friends and I made necklaces out of fishing line and and other fishing supplies. Seriously; our shopping center was the fishing isle at Rite Aid (it was Payless back then). I made some cute things but lost interest after a couple of years. Well, I recently became interested in knitting with wire and if I am going to knit with wire I would like it to be jewelry. Tonight I made this:

It could be a necklace if I were to add cltoh ends to it. But I think I will finish it off with a clasp and have a nice little bracelet. It is actually prettier than this picture. It is almost midnight and I am not getting good light. The green is darker and the dark beads are more metallic, almost like hematite. The copper is really fine; I hope it does not break.

Knitting Vacation

So, when one is on vacation from work and can't really go anywhere, she knits obsessively and spends money...on knitting.

On Monday I took a picture of the Bonsai Tunic.

Yesterday I knit and knit and knit. I had to make myself stop because my hands were starting to hurt.

This might not look like much but I am not the fastest knitter so for me it is a ton!

I have also tried knitting with wire. I bought some beads today so I can actually make a wearable piece of jewelry. I used to bead when I was a teen. I think this will be a more interesting way to go about it.

Yikes! Sharks playoffs start in 20 minutes. I am getting butterflies.
