Fetching

I hate Aida's Armwarmers. Those darn things have given me more trouble...

so, I ripped them out! Completely. And I started over using the Fetching pattern from the spring Knitty. Oooh, I did the left one and it came out so well. Really pretty and I think they will fit her very well. She is just going to have to accept the fact that she cannot have the stupid half fingers. I have decided that I hate fingers and thumb gussets. I like that Fetching has no thumb gusset. Very nice feature.

It is hot. So very hot. I am going to escape to San Francisco tomorrow, I think. Caltrain will give me lots of knitting time and I will not be stuck in this hot. 100 degrees 9 p.m. is just not acceptable. Knitting actually makes me sweat too much! But I can't sit around doing nothing. I have never sweat so much from just existing. Just figures that my first week of vacation would be during a record breaking heat wave.

Mittens Complete

The title says it all! The mittens were completed today and I still have enough yarn leftover to fix the matching hat, which somehow acquired a hole.

I have joined my first knitalong! It is the Cascade Fixation sock KAL. I cast on and started knitting but forgot to account for the stretch of Fixation. So, I frogged and will remeasure my swatch with it more stretched out. These socks are going to be for me. While I like to knit with wool I can't actually wear it (itchy) so these socks will work well for me. I am using teal colored Fixation. They will be perfect for hockey season.

I am also itching to cast on a dishcloth. If I do that I will officially have: Too Many Things On needles! Hmm, let's take inventory:

Aida's Armwarmers (really MUST finish those)
Sophie Purse (no hurry there)
Moss Grid Hand Towel
Hat that needs repairing
Fixation Socks

Well, that is just five things. Not as bad as I had thought. But a dishcloth will make six things. Is that officially too many?

I just did a spell check. I stuck a K in front of "needles." I think I may have crossed over into Knitting-too-much-land.

Mittens Continued

This mitten pattern was written for a person with mutant hands! I have short thumbs, very short thumbs, and if I had followed the required height for the mittens my short thumbs would not have fit. And why is "thumbs" so very hard for me to type! *scream of frustration* Anyway, the mittens are for my cousin, who does not have short thumbs so I added a few more rounds to it. I completed the first (wait, second?) mitten last night and it is much better. I am halfway through the second mitten and will soon have a pair to present to the Massachusetts bound cousin. Now I have to decide if I care enough to rip out the first unsuccessful mitten. I don't think I would use the yarn for myself but you never know, right?

So these mittens have been taking all of my attention and therefore, I have made no progress on the Moss Grid towel.

Mittens

I made a mitten this weekend. Which I will be frogging soon. I thought I had found a nice easy pattern for mittens but it is all screwy. I know I followed the pattern. I made no mistakes. And yet I ended up with a ribbed wrist that ended at the base of my thumb instead of at the wrist. Since I don't think my cousin, the recipient of this mitten, has a thumb growing directly out of her wrist I am going to have to frog. But since that is unpleasant I have elected to start the second mitten from scratch. I stopped the ribbing sooner and added some stockinette in order to get a proportional fit. It is going quite well. I am pleased with this mitten.

I am also working on the Moss Grid hand towel from Mason-Dixon knitting. I have completed about 3 inches. It is not a pattern that I can just be automatic with. I have to pay attention. I am making this in a lovely purple and so far it is going nicely.

I also bought some orange and yellow cotton in order to make dishclothes for the grandma. These will be for Christmas. She still prefers them to sponges so I think this gift will go over well. And the colors are nice and sunny.
